Walking Paths & Sidewalks
Our neighborhood sidewalks and nature paths connect residents to parks, prairie trails, and nearby preserves. These routes support everyday walking, running, and dog-walking while linking the community to regional amenities.
About the Network
Sidewalks and shared-use paths weave through the subdivision and connect to nearby public amenities. Please treat all users—walkers, runners, strollers, and mobility devices—with courtesy and give audible signals when passing.

Rules & Use
- Keep right; pass on the left. Give a bell or verbal signal (“On your left”).
- Pets leashed; pick up waste. Pack it out—do not leave bags along the path.
- Non-motorized only (ADA mobility devices permitted).
- No blocking. Don’t place yard waste, snow piles, basketball hoops, or vehicles across sidewalks.
- Respect adjacent property. Stay on paved/path surfaces; do not cut across lawns or landscaping.
- Be visible at night. Use lights/reflective gear if traveling near dusk or dawn.
- Winter caution. Surfaces may be slick; proceed carefully.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are bicycles, e-bikes, or e-scooters allowed?
Yes. These are welcome throughout the neighborhood, though riders are encouraged to use the roads whenever possible so that sidewalks and walking paths remain safe and clear for pedestrians. Please ride responsibly and yield to anyone on foot.
Does the HOA clear snow or apply salt on paths?
No. The Village of Mahomet is responsible for plowing neighborhood roads only. Homeowners are responsible for clearing and maintaining any sidewalks adjacent to their property.
Can I place sports equipment or event signs on the path?
Yes, but only temporarily. Items such as basketball hoops, yard games, or event signs must not block or restrict pedestrian use of the paths and should be removed promptly after use.
Who do I contact about a broken slab, heaved sidewalk, or vegetation overgrowth?
Please contact the HOA at thornewoodhoa@gmail.com with a description or photo of the issue. The HOA will assess whether it falls under neighborhood maintenance or should be referred to the Village of Mahomet for repair.
